The Clock Tower

"Shade and Marina are trying to catch up with Shade’s colony, and fly over a huge coastal city, trying to find the next landmark from Shade’s echo map. The city could be either Boston or New York. Shade knows they’re looking for some kind of human tower, and they roost atop a steeply pitched roof of a clock tower. This tower was inspired by the Customs House tower in Boston, Massachusetts." - K.O.

Custom House Tower Boston

Boston 's Custom House Tower was the city's first skyscraper. The tower is actually an addition to the original Custom House built in 1847. The original building was an imposing structure constructed in the style of a Greek temple complete with Doric columns and a domed roof. It was located at the end of the city docks, on the edge of the city's port waterfront.

In 1913 the twenty six floor tower in Italian Renaissance style was added to the base structure. By this time the city's land reclamation project had also moved the waterfront some distance from the building. The tower is topped by an iconic 22 foot high clock.

The tower was unoccupied for a number of years until it was renovated in the 1990's. It is now a Marriot hotel.
